Updated at 2:40 p.m. ET: SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Rocks that a woman was carrying in her cargo shorts caught fire after a trip to a California beach, leaving her with severe burns,  and authorities are investigating whether phosphorous on the stones is to blame.

Authorities say the woman was carrying stones that her children picked up during a family trip to Trestles Beach at San Onofre State Beach on Saturday. Read more

I believe you…here’s 14,000 dollars

A Goodwill Industries outlet in St. Louis received a very generous donation this week: $14,505 in cash. The only problem is it appears to have been unintentional rather than a literal act of goodwill.

Store manager Tina Wells was sorting through a box of Christmas donations when she discovered the money, which included 266 $50 bills, 12 $100 bills and one $5 bill, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Read more

The Mets

NEW YORK (AP) David Wright lined his second double of the game, a tiebreaking drive in the eighth inning that raised his major league-leading average to .411 and sent the New York Mets past the Cincinnati Reds 9-4 Thursday.

Down 4-0, the Mets began their comeback in the middle innings. Then, they were the surprise winners in a matchup of bullpens that were going in different directions, and spoiled the Reds’ extended stay in New York.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) The Texas Rangers were set for a rare weekday afternoon sellout, fueled by thousands of  schoolchildren getting a break from their routine.

Manager Ron Washington figures the kids would like to see Josh Hamilton in October, too, so he sat Hamilton and stuck with his plan to rest his key starters.
